2025 Trinity County Cannabis Harvest Report

This is part 2/8 of the 2025 California Cannabis Harvest Report by Budist. Scroll to the bottom of this page for links to the other sections.

As the furthest north county in this year’s Budist Harvest Report, Trinity County is where we start this year’s report. Trinity sits in the northeastern corner of the Emerald Triangle and is all too often the forgotten corner of the Emerald Triangle. Trinity features a mountainous terrain, a low density population, and a proximity to the interstate 5 which contrasts to the 101 experience of Humboldt and Mendocino counties.

The DCC reports that in 2025, ~182 licensed outdoor cultivators in Trinity County harvested 796,850 wet pounds across 222,900 plants [1]. In 2025, Trinity County grew ~21% more weight than the previous year, accounting for ~3.3% of the state’s total 2025 outdoor harvest compared to ~4.0% in 2024. The full term harvest described by the farmers below are but a small fraction of the county’s total harvest and is not representative of all the growing regions and microclimates within Trinity County. Still, we feel they include some of the best that licensed Trinity cannabis has to offer.

According to NOAA [2], Trinity County experienced a colder 2024/2025 winter when compared with the 2023/2024 winter - with the highest average temperatures arriving in August 2025 instead of July in 2024. 2025’s growing season was also cooler and harvest time was significantly wetter when compared with 2024, though August 2025 saw less rain than August 2024. In 2025, the harvest months of September and October saw a reported ~5.5” of rain fall on average across Trinity County, more than quadruple 2024’s rain amounts in that month.

Due to high elevation and northern latitude, some Trinity farmers even had to contend with an early frost towards the end of their harvest season. One farmer noted that they “experienced excessive precipitation in October, causing early harvest of many varietals.“ Another farmer commented that “Early October rain was difficult for harvest.”

Most farms are concentrated in the northern half of Trinity County, though that is not to say that licensed cannabis cultivation doesn’t occur south of Hayfork. Some farms in Trinity are still pure flower farms, with none of their harvest dedicated to fresh frozen extract production, while others dedicate a portion of their harvest to fresh frozen extraction, but few in between.

In 2025, flower grown in Trinity County by Trinity Alps Canna Craft was selected by Woody Harrelson to be one of two farms featured in Woody’s Personal Stash [3]. One contemporary Trinity County event that celebrates the annual cannabis harvest with both a flower and concentrate competition is none other than the one you’d expect for the county’s number one agricultural specialty crop: The County Fair. Trinity County Fair is the only county fair to have a cannabis competition in the truest sense of the term and features both a flower and concentrate section open to local licensees and local homegrowers alike.

Top Cultivar: Mo Muffin

Cultivation Information

Plant inputs: Vital garden products, chicken manure, gypsum, kelp, and I make my own nutrient inputs using KNF. I make fermented plant juice, Jadam, compost teas, homemade calcium vinegar.

Cultivation practices: Raised beds, hugelkultur, cover cropping, KNF, composting, compost tea, worm bin. Planting occurs in raised beds. The soil has been worked and amended for the past 15 years. Originally inoculated with indigenous microorganisms and decomposing leaves, sticks and logs at the bottom of the beds. Cover crops are grown each year to build soil.

Philosophy: Trying to align with the natural systems and allowing space and time to let the plant do its thing.

Takeaway: Living soil and permaculture technique. Been going 20 years strong. Trying to obtain the best pollen for future breeding.
