Event Recap: Woody’s Personal Stash
On Thursday December 18th, Budist joined The Woods in West Hollywood to host an intimate sneak preview of Woody’s Personal Stash, a sungrown cannabis line curated by Woody Harrelson and rooted in a deep respect for farmers, land, and craft cultivation.
The timing was notable. The gathering took place the same day as the federal announcement around cannabis rescheduling, a reminder of how far the industry has come and how much of its progress has been carried by the people in the room long before policy caught up.
What unfolded was not just a product preview, but a true celebration of community. More than 150 guests gathered in The Woods’ Ganja Giggle Garden, including farmers, operators, longtime advocates, and celebrity guests, alongside a wide mix of industry voices and creatives.
Woody Harrelson and a Longstanding Commitment to the Plant
Woody’s relationship with cannabis has always been about more than consumption. For decades, he has been a vocal advocate for sungrown cultivation, environmental stewardship, and supporting small farmers who prioritize soil health and sustainable practices.
Woody’s Personal Stash reflects that ethos. Rather than chasing trends or scale, the project centers on thoughtfully selected cultivars grown by trusted farming partners, chosen for their expression, integrity, and connection to place. The evening offered guests a rare opportunity to experience that vision firsthand, with Woody personally signing limited edition stash boxes and spending time with attendees in an unhurried, genuinely communal setting.
Honoring the Farmers Behind the Flower
At the heart of the night were the farmers: Mattole Valley Sungrown and Trinity Alps Canna Craft.
Mattole Valley Sungrown showcased Purple Papaya, a sungrown cultivar rooted in the remote Mattole region of Humboldt County. Grown in living, in-ground soil under full sun, the flower reflects a farming approach centered on land stewardship, patience, and quality over scale. Purple Papaya is particularly known for its resin production and aromatic depth, qualities shaped by both genetics and careful cultivation. It was served through a Storz & Bickel Volcano, a convection-based vaporizer that preserves terpene nuance and allows the flower to be experienced without combustion.
Trinity Alps Canna Craft presented Cherry Diesel, hand rolled by master grower Matt Jefferson and shared throughout the evening. Grown in North Trinity County near Coffee Creek at roughly 2,500 feet, the farm operates in an alpine environment defined by low humidity and significant daily temperature swings. These conditions allow full season plants to mature slowly, contributing to higher terpene expression and structural integrity in the flower.
Together, these farms represented two distinct expressions of Northern California sungrown cannabis shaped by place, climate, and experience. Their presence grounded the evening in what matters most.
A Curated Evening of Shared Experience
The tasting experiences throughout the night were designed to showcase how thoughtful sourcing, preparation, and presentation shape the way cannabis is experienced, allowing guests to explore with intention and without excess.
At the dab bar, Moon Valley presented Blue Andeze rosin, produced in Sonoma County from flower grown and processed entirely in house. Moon Valley’s vertically integrated approach allows for close control over cultivation, harvest timing, and solventless extraction, resulting in a cultivar-driven expression shaped by genetics and place. Blue Andeze recently earned second place in the MJBowl concentrates category and was reviewed on Budist by Jason Pinsky, receiving a score of 92 points.
The dab bar also featured Nasha Grease Monkey OG and Guava Gift rosin, produced in Humboldt County from flower cultivated and processed in house. Rooted in Emerald Triangle hash making tradition, Nasha emphasizes careful handling and consistency, allowing each cultivar to remain approachable while retaining depth. Both expressions were recently reviewed on Budist by Ernesto Martinez.
Punch Extracts contributed Purple Papaya hash, which was hand rolled into hash holes by Budist critic and certified Ganjier Caleb Chen. Each hash hole paired Purple Papaya flower grown by Mattole Valley Sungrown with Purple Papaya hash, creating a layered expression of the same cultivar. The format demonstrated how flower and hash, when aligned and handled with care, can deepen flavor and texture without overpowering the experience.
Concentrate tastings were served using devices from Dr. Dabber, whose temperature controlled tools provided a consistent, repeatable way for guests to focus on aroma, texture, and flavor rather than the mechanics of consumption.
Terpene Belt Farms crafted terpene driven mocktails designed to complement the cultivars featured throughout the evening, creating a natural bridge between aroma, flavor, and experience. The Cherry Citrus Hot Toddy was paired with Cherry Diesel, blending tart cherry and cranberry with warming notes of cinnamon and citrus to echo the cultivar’s bright, structured profile. Alongside it, the Coconut Papaya Fizz was paired with Papaya Punch, combining papaya nectar, sparkling coconut water, and fresh mint. The mocktail mirrored the tropical, dessert-forward aromatics of the cultivar, offering a refreshing, non intoxicating way to engage with terpene expression.
The Edible Bar, featured Plus Products Blackberry Lemonade gummies, paired alongside lemon poundcake and fresh blackberries from the dessert station. The bright citrus notes of the gummies complemented the richness of the cake, while the five milligram format kept the pairing balanced and approachable.
The Savory Bar, catered by Pura Vita, delivered a comforting, plant-based spread rooted in Italian tradition. Guests grazed on fresh crudité alongside familiar favorites like broccoli rabe, arancini, and crocchette di patate, balanced by crowd-pleasers including buffalo cauliflower and warm BLTMA panini. Hearty baked ziti rounded out the offering, providing a satisfying counterpoint to an evening of cannabis exploration and conversation. Handmade pizzas were also prepared in-house throughout the evening using the on-site pizza oven nestled in The Woods’ garden.
Taken together, the evening reflected a shared commitment to quality and restraint, where products, producers, food, and devices worked in concert to support exploration, conversation, and a deeper appreciation for craft.
Community at the Center
The evening drew a mix of West Hollywood neighbors alongside farmers, producers, and longtime advocates, creating a setting that felt local rather than industry-driven.
Celebrity guests, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Steve Guttenberg, were present alongside growers, operators, cannabis enthusiasts, and longtime members of the community. Woody’s wife, Laura, was there with friends throughout the night, reinforcing the personal nature of the gathering and the intention behind bringing people together in this elevated yet approachable way.
Rather than moving quickly through activations, guests stayed, revisited tastings, and spent time connecting with one another. The night unfolded at an unhurried pace, shaped more by conversation and presence than by programming.
Closing Thoughts
Woody’s Personal Stash was a reminder of what cannabis can look like when it’s approached with care. Care for the land, respect for the farmers, products curated with intention, and time taken to share them properly.
We also want to acknowledge Lorien Curran of POET. This evening wouldn’t have come together without her making the introduction and helping align the right people around a shared vision. Her role was thoughtful and essential, and we’re grateful for it.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the farmers, producers, and partners who made the night what it was.
