MJBowl Beverages First Place MVP!
I am a big fan of cannabis beverages. From the quick onset of effects, to the ease of consumption, to the variety of tasty flavors, cannabis beverages are a great alternative to sugary edibles. I'm not a huge alcohol drinker, so having the option of consuming cannabis beverages at a social gathering in lieu of alcohol is always a great option, as well. I was excited to be a beverage judge for the inaugural MJBowl and got to discover some great products with which I was previously unfamiliar. The best of these products was the 530Grower 5G Pop Ginger Lemon Sparkling Beverage.
Each can of 5G Pop contains 100mg of THC. This review is based on my Minimum Effective Dose (MED), or the smallest amount needed to achieve the desired effect. My MED currently sits at around 100mg, so I consumed the entire can. If you are unsure of your MED, it is recommended to start with 5mg of THC, wait 90 minutes (or, in the case of a beverage, about an hour), then incrementally add 5mg as needed. One of the few drawbacks from this product is the inability to accurately dose 5mg of THC, so I would not recommend this product to new consumers or those who require a very specific dose. It is perfect, however, for higher dose consumers who are looking for something to slowly sip. Remember, your MED may change as your tolerance gets higher or lower.
The 5G Pop comes in a 12 oz can, with each 1.2 oz serving containing 10mg of THC. While the front of the can claims "9g of fiber per serving," it actually contains 9g of fiber in the entire can, which was a bit confusing. The beverage also contains prebiotics and only 100 calories for the whole can, making it one of the healthier ingestible options on the market.
Upon opening the can and sticking my nose inside, I was met with the pleasant smell of citrus and a light hint of ginger. I am not usually a fan of ginger, so I was glad that it didn't seem overwhelming. I've had a cannabis infused ginger ale before, and the ginger flavor was way too strong for my liking. I poured the beverage into a glass, and while it was a bit cloudier than I would have liked, by no means was the appearance unappetizing, as can be seen in other beverages. There was no sediment, and the color was a pleasing yellowish-pink.
I took my first sip, and, as with the aroma, the lemon was the star here, with the ginger acting as a compliment, not the main event. This was one of the better tasting cannabis beverages I've tried. It was crisp, it was refreshing and it was easy to drink. I wanted to sip it so that the effects would take hold gradually, and I had to stop myself from drinking it too quickly.
It was a chilly Sunday, and my plan for the morning was to bring a TV outside, sit in the gazebo by the fire pit and watch my Indianapolis Colts play against one of their division rivals, the Houston Texans. This felt like the perfect opportunity to consume the 5G Pop, as I wanted something to sip throughout the game.
By halftime, I was halfway done with the drink, and the effects had started to kick in. They were very balanced, combining body relaxation with mental stimulation, exactly what I was looking for in the moment. I finished the drink by the end of the third quarter, and the effects reached their peak shortly thereafter. By the time the game was over, even though my team lost, I was still feeling content and relaxed. The effects lasted for about another two hours before they gradually tapered off, leaving me in a state of contentment.
From the aroma, to the flavor, to the effects, to the ease of consumption, it was easy to see why this product ended with the gold medal for cannabis beverages at the MJBowl. My fellow beverage judges agreed that this was a first class product, one deserving of the accolades it received. I would love to try some of 530Grower's other beverage options, which include a berry lemonade, an orange soda and a peach soda, as well as a zero sugar root beer. Hopefully I can get my hands on some of those products, so stay tuned for future reviews.
