Prickly Pear Fruit Chews by Spinello

I’ve written over 160 reviews for Budist, most of them edible reviews. It’s rare that I find an edible company in California for which I’ve never reviewed a product. That’s why I was so excited to try the Spinello Prickly Pear Hybrid Fruit Chews. I had seen the Spinello brand recently pop up at my local dispensary, and I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to try them. Prickly pear is also a flavor profile that you don’t often see in cannabis edibles, so I was doubly excited to try this product.

Each package of Spinello Fruit Chews contains ten 10mg servings. The chews come in a little tub with a snap down lid, and that tub comes inside of a hexagonal box. It says on the package that the chews are made with liquid diamonds, meaning there shouldn’t be too much of a cannabis flavor that accompanies the gummies. The design of the product is very unique, unlike any I have seen in the California market. Each piece is a little wedge, and together, the wedges form a circle with a little hole in the middle. They are very well perforated, making it easy to remove a single dose. I am a high dose edible consumer, so I ate the entire package (NOTE: if you are unsure of your dose, start with 5mg of THC, wait 90 minutes then incrementally add 5mg as needed).

Upon first glance and then upon tasting, it was clear to me that these were gummies, not fruit chews. Call it semantics, but I consider fruit chews to be closer to the texture of a Starburst, while these were much closer to the classic gummy that can be seen across the cannabis market. As with most gummies, these were covered in a very light coating of sugar. The aroma was mild, but was very clearly pear. Upon taking my first bite, I was hit immediately with a very strong but very pleasant pear flavor. It didn’t taste artificial, either. It tasted like I had bit into a ripe, juicy pear. Spinello uses all natural flavoring and no high fructose corn syrup, so this could have led to the flavor tasting more natural and less artificial. Either way, these were some of the tastier gummies I’ve had in a while, and I can’t wait to try some of their other flavors.

The effects took hold about 45 minutes after consumption, and I first felt them in my body, creeping up toward my head. I was hit with instant relaxation, as I sank into my couch, not wanting to get up. As the effects moved upwards, my mind became stimulated, but not to the point of raciness. These effects were focused, and very balanced. Soon, visuals became clearer and more vivid, and a sense of euphoria set in. My mind was uplifted, but my body stayed relaxed.  These were perfect for watching a movie or relaxing on a blanket in the park on a beautiful day. The effects remained potent for about three hours, after which they slowly subsided, leaving me content and happy. Spinello has a winner with their Prickly Pear Hybrid Fruit Chews, and I hope that I will be able to report similar success with their other offerings!
