LA Pop Rockz by Genuine
94 Points
Judging for this year’s CA Cannabis Awards wasn’t my first run-in with LA Pop Rockz (Triangle Kush BX2 x Z Animal)—Clarkie’s already gave me a killer expression of the cultivar—but it was my first taste of flower from Genuine. And honestly, I couldn’t find much on them. Just an Instagram page and a dead website. A little disappointing, sure, but anonymity was part of the judging this year, and sometimes a little mystery makes the high hit harder.
Genuine’s LA Pop Rockz ended up being my number one pick from the indoor category—top-tier, standout, unforgettable. It won Gold and Silver medals for limonene and pinene, and for good reason. This is the kind of weed that makes me sit up straight. Reminds me why I still give a damn about this plant.
The moment I cracked the bag, it went feral.
Aromas snapping through the plastic like a rabid dog.
The buds didn’t just invite me in; they dragged me.
Visually? Ridiculous. Trichome-heavy to the point of absurdity—like someone misted sugar over velvet. Sticky to the point of being impractical. Ten minutes later, I’m still peeling my fingers off doorknobs like I’ve got radioactive spider DNA. Grind it up, and the texture turns into something halfway between wet resin and kinetic sand, oozing with oils just waiting to escape.
On the nose, it’s a spice market in Death Valley. Wild Herbes de Provence dunked in hot rubber, with scattered cumin, paprika, and cayenne as backup dancers. After a grind, things shift: bright lime, juicy tropical funk, chamomile, and a bouquet of diesel-soaked roses. It’s chaotic—a stinky, floral fever dream you can’t stop smelling.
The flavor is just a notch down in complexity from the nose, but still packs a wild punch. That first hit is like licking a fruit salad that’s been left on a radiator. Candied herbs, resinous pine, synthetic citrus, and tropical tang all crashing together. Imagine unripe mango and kiwi tumbling into a vat of spray paint, with bitter Fruit Loops soaked in flat Sprite. It sounds gross, but I keep going back to it.
And yes, the effects. God-tier.
One rip and I’m melting into bliss. Eyes squinty, brain buoyant. I feel like I’m swaying on a cruise ship in a storm—unsteady but happy as hell. No anxiety, no crash. Just waves of giggles and warm fuzzies. I’m inspired but immobilized, dreaming up my next future, banned-in-Texas novel with zero plans of actually writing it down.
This was my last bowl of the night, and I was stunned.
Zero expectations. Total payoff.
LA Pop Rockz reminded me that weed can still blow my mind after all these years. It’s honestly some of my favorite indoor I’ve had—and that’s not a throwaway line. If I say “holy sh*t” ten times during a session, I know it’s special.
I hope Genuine’s got more like this waiting in the wings.
