Garlic Mint Medley Infused Pre-Roll by Tall Tree Society

95 Points

A Tall Tree Society hash-infused joint is exactly the sort of fix I’m seeking right now.

Over the past few weeks, LA has been experiencing Portland-levels of gloominess, and finally, today at ~3pm, the sun decided to make an appearance. Maybe it was tied up with Met Gala prep? Either way, I’m excited to smoke this bad boy and take a walk around the reservoir to soak up a little Vitamin D while I can.

The equation for producing a “Garlic Mint Medley” appears to be infusing Garlic Juice flower with a Gush Mints temple ball. I’m anticipating effects similar to that Khalifa Mints preroll (91 points) I’ve previously reviewed for you, a calming wave of focus and relaxation, but today I want to see that potency turned up to 11. I suspect the hash infusion will help me get there.

Tall Tree Society’s mission is to leave the world better off than they found it. Offering sungrown, Sun + Earth-certified cannabis grown in mineral-rich living soil up in Mendocino County, founders Shane and Carson painstakingly cultivate 10,000 sq ft of canopy, a 12,000 ft sq nursery operation, and an entire organic vegetable farm. Oh- and while also raising chickens and pigs on-site. Talk about hustle.

I’m immediately reminded of farms like Magic Meadow and Frogville. These guys all bust their asses, never taking the path of least resistance, because its the right thing to do. Plain and simple. That mentality also drives them to donate a portion of their profits to groups like the Sierra Club, WWF, and EDF. They’re not growing pot, they’re building Bio-Dome-esque sustainable ecosystems. Who needs pesticides when you have a veritable army of dragonflies, birds, and hungry chickens to keep pests at bay?

The tube itself is (naturally) made of reclaimed ocean plastic. As I crack it, I’m met with a slew of savory terps, which isn’t unexpected, as Garlic Juice is a cross of GMO x Papaya. Garlic, onion, mushroom, a hint of citrus, a ton of raw earthiness and pine. It reminds me of home, of family dinners. You’ve undoubtedly seen that “Pure Michigan“ ad campaign.

And as I slide this 2g behemoth out of its tube, I’m thrilled to see this is no ordinary preroll. Rolled on-site at Tall Tree, they’ve produced a perfect shotgun shell with a ceramic mouthpiece sealed with a rubber stopper. The hole on this mouthpiece is massive, easily one of the largest I’ve ever seen, so I’m eager to see the impact it’ll have on the draw. It should hit like Cassius Clay.

The dry hit immediately gives me rich chocolate, which I wasn’t expecting at all. There are notes of fresh mint that linger in the back of your throat, nutty cheese, certainly more of that earth and pine, with a little gassy diesel thrown in for good measure. It's still savory overall- but that sweetness creeps up on you the more you draw at it.

I opt to enjoy this at home before starting on my walk, as I’m fairly confident that it will take a minute to burn and I don’t want to have to constantly be worried about my smoke billowing into the faces of babies, dogs, and others who haven’t consented to inhaling my massive, second-hand clouds.

It burned for a full 32 minutes. There was zero oil ring present - but temple ball infusion, nevertheless, delivered. Built for the seasoned connoisseur. If thats not you, consider treading lightly. The effects can be almost psychedelic in nature, providing a sense of temporary visual motion drift before settling into a happy tranqulity. Cannabis that allows you to open up, to feel more inquisitive and adventurous, will always be good cannabis in my book. I find it to be very manageable, clear-headed and focused while still sizzling with positive energy.

The perfect pairing my sunset walk.

You can find one of these Big Ol’ Doinks for under $25. Shocked Pikachu face.

95. Cannabis for those who eschew hype and embrace craft- and yes, very worth your money. Downsides were dry mouth and lackluster duration of effects, which was strange, all considering. Perhaps the month of April just obliterated my tolerance? I’ll have to pick up another one of these to keep on ice for awhile…you know, for research.

Album Pairing: Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground by Bright Eyes

It took four albums for Conor and Bright Eyes to really break through with this double album…and try as I may to forget freshman and sophomore year of high school, I can recognize that it was (once again) The OC’s fault. “Lover I Don’t Have to Love” was infinitely more listenable than anything else I’d heard from them/him before…and safe to say, I was hooked.
